Lichfield Oct 2d 1792

My dear H

By some perverse circumstance I have been disappointed of receiving your last letter for knowing your punctuality I am assured of your having written it.

The tempestuous weather (which was become irksome) broke up the party at Parkgate on a sudden, & I was induced therefore to quit my marine residence a week sooner than I had intended. I was also tempted by a kind & pressing invitation from Miss Seward to travel directly to Lichfield instead of calling at Buxton which I found it on many account better to keep till another year. I was tired of living in public & glad to exchange it for select society.
